Eric’s “Back Into Tarot” Blog

In the early 2000s (my teen years), I was very spiritual and eventually found that I enjoyed tarot cards. I got really into them. Unfortunately, I ended up in a toxic relationship that ended very poorly. I was also around a lot of “fake” and “toxic” people at the time, many of whom were self-proclaimed spiritual people, witches, Wiccans, pagans, and occultists. Long story short, I left tarot cards and spirituality with that relationship. I went to college, got two terminal degrees, one in creative writing and one in business, and started teaching English composition.

Lately (in 2026), I have found myself drawn back to some tarot cards that I miraculously found in a bin that I had managed to hold onto for over ten years across multiple moves. With my academic background, I’ve slowly started to study tarot cards in a rigorous way, from both philosophical and even spiritual lenses. While my own spirituality still has a long way to recover, I have finally come to accept that I love using tarot cards for many things, including:

  • daily readings,

  • thinking through daily problems,

  • thinking through the life that I want for my own future,

  • and reading for others.

It took a while to get confident reading for others again, and I’m still reacquainting myself with card meanings and spreads, but I’ve started practicing and reading for friends and friends-of-friends. This blog chronicles my journey getting back into tarot cards and coming to terms with my life as it is. I try to post weekly.

Getting Back Into Tarot Cards (First Post)

It’s been a very long time since I’ve used tarot cards and allowed myself to dabble in the idea that a 78-card system can help me navigate through the world. I’m an academic, so this has been one of the more difficult subjects for me to bring up or talk about. Truthfully, I’ve been looking for a community that I connect well with around the subject, but I’ve not found one. So being a writer, I thought why not start a blog about the subject?
