Policies

This page is a list of my notices and policies.

Copyright

My blog posts and reviews are my own work. When using or discussing my work elsewhere, please follow the conventions of your genre/discipline by using its proper crediting procedures, citations, and or links to credit my work.

My blog is my portfolio. My goals with my blog also include increasing my daily writing habits, learning to use social media to effectively market my blog and myself as my brand, and making money.

Making Money

I want to make money with my blog. I may occasionally sell my own products, such as books or collections. Most of the time though, I utilize passive income services, such as Google AdSense, Amazon Affiliate links, and other tools and services from time to time. I do my best to always be upfront about the posts and pages that utilize these services.

I get compensation from clicks on Google Ads. You’ll see them in sidebars and on the footers of my posts and pages.

Sometimes I use affiliate links in my blog posts and pages when I’m discussing certain products, such as a specific book title or a film. I’m compensated if you click the link and then buy something from the merchant within 24 hours. In some cases, such as with Amazon, I also get compensation if you click off of the initial product I sent you to as long as the other product is purchased within 24 hours. You’re not paying any more for these products that you would if you just went to the merchant’s website.

What It Means For You

For you, it means that unless you disable cookies, my website is using cookies to track you. Cookies are used by websites to track your IP address and can be used to save settings and information across multiple websites.

I allow Google Analytics to track demographics and usage statistics about visitors through cookies. I do this so that I can get a better idea of who is visiting my website and what they’re doing on it.

The affiliate links to products that I write about on my website use cookies to track your purchases through merchants.

My Efforts

Again, I go through great effort to ensure that these blog posts are labeled accordingly: that disclaimers appear BEFORE any affiliate links appear in the post or on the page. This is done for both the desktop version of my site as well as mobile.

Your Email Address

I collect email addresses by asking for them via a form on my website. I use these email addresses to send occasional emails letting you know what I’m up to. I don’t share your email address or information with anyone else. I collect your email addresses and send these emails with MailChimp. They have their own privacy policy, found here.

If  you have questions or concerns about this or any other technical thing about how I do business here, please contact me via my contact page. Some reference materials about privacy and cookies are below, if you’re curious. The internet and ways of doing business are always changing and I do my best to keep up.

The FTC dictates many of the guidelines about how I’m required to disclose any affiliate marketing and endorsements being done on my website. https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/ftcs-endorsement-guides-what-people-are-asking

I’m based in the US, but I get a lot of traffic from the UK. The UK recently released new guidelines requiring websites that have UK visitors to be notified about using cookies and requiring them to agree to using cookies on the website. https://www.cookielaw.org/the-cookie-law/
